PERFORMING INCANTATIONS, 2020
(solo exhibit)
PERFORMING INCANTATIONS: Deconstructing Gendered & Racialized Media Erasure is a multi-channel video installation that debuted at Hamiltonian Artists gallery in Washington DC. Curated by filmmaker Dawne Langford, the exhibit is influenced by historical defiance and how it informs our continued resistance of oppressive systems. To 'perform an incantation' is to use language or spiritual powers to manipulate reality. The images & sounds in this exhibit work on a subconscious level to reclaim narratives manipulated and disparaged through the lens of imposed racial and gender-based oppression.

"The process of interrogating media erasure, misrepresentation, and subjugation of the feminine for this exhibit was made possible with our ancestor's guidance and the spirit of black femme empowerment."
